About

Leadership is a Philosophy not a Checklist is intended to be a place to discuss leadership. For the past thirty years I have been thinking about and observing leaders and noticed that even though people had been through “management courses” there were inconsistencies in leadership. Two years ago I started an independent study in philosophy and realized that the characteristics of leadership that we will voluntarily follow have been recorded over thousands of years. Additionally, these ancient leaders didn’t attend our modern management courses, so what set them apart? The idea for this community (and the videos I post) is to watch the series (prologue and chapters 1-7) and then start to participate in discussions as well as other videos I will post discussing leadership lessons from books, movies, and other media. The audience for this community can be broken into three categories. First, people who are not in positions of leadership who want to understand why their workplace is so good or so terrible. Second is to generate introspection for natural leaders who do not understand what they are doing by instinct. Finally for management types who want to fix their organizations so they are both productive and a great place to work.
